How’s the weather?

I'm coming to Hallstatt in February – what will the weather be like? Our editorial department receives these and other questions regarding the weather, on a daily basis. For this reason we have compiled some information for you below: Between June and early September is midsummer in the region. We recommend light and airy clothes, bathing suits and of course an umbrella. Because without rain, it is not a summer. In the months of September to the end of November it is Autumn in the Salzkammergut. Warm clothing is required; non-slip footwear and the obligatory umbrella should be in your luggage. Between the beginning of December and the beginning of March winter has its say. Warm jackets and shoes are now in demand, because in these months, the thermometer can sometimes fall to minus 10 degrees Celsius. In the Salzkammergut Spring usually awakes at the end of March or beginning of April. Then it is a bit more airy. Important information for train riders and hikers on Lake Hallstatt
All information: "Ferry traffic suspended" and "hiking trail closure Ostuferweg" can be read below

Note for hikers on the East Bank Hiking Trail

The east bank hiking trail will be closed between Obertraun and the Bad Goiser village of "Obersee" from 13 to 28 May 2024 from Monday to Thursday between 07:30 and 16:30 hrs. Exceptions are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as Whit Monday. The East Bank Cycle Path is also affected. The excursion restaurant "Seeraunzn" is freely accessible by bike and on foot from Bad Goisern, even during the closing times.

Until 15.05.2024
Ferry service on Lake Hallstatt suspended

The ferry service between Hallstatt train station and Hallstatt center is expected to be suspended until 15.05.2024, due to massive storm damage to the railway line. As an alternative for hikers, we recommend a crossing from Obertraun to Hallstatt with the old salt ship "Navia". Or with the round trip boat of the Hallstätter Seeschiffahrt from the stops "Obertraun", "Hallstatt Markt/Centre" and "Hallstatt Lahn".

Advice for international travellers

In the case of the rail replacement service from the "Steeg-Gosau" station, the bus that takes you to Hallstatt or Obertraun is already waiting for you at the station forecourt. All you have to do is change - from the train to the bus. You can then get off directly in the towns of Hallstatt and Obertraun! If you have any questions about this, please contact the train staff (conductor).
